Water Containers and Contents

Rethinking Safety and Convenience. Make a difference for your health AND the environment!

Did you know that the plastic water bottle you toss into the landfill, composed of Polyethylene Terephthalate PET) takes 500+ years to decompose and the newer biodegradable/photodegradable may take much longer than advertised and in fact just break down into smaller pieces faster rather than decompose faster.

Better alternative: RECYCLE your plastic bottles.

Best Alternative: DON’T USE THEM AT ALL!

Aside from the challenge of managing bottles at waste/recycling centers, consider what’s in the bottles water you drink, you may be amazed!

The Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) Bottled Water report informs us, only in California are companies required to divulge the contents of their bottles (such as water source, purity, quality, treatment methods). Nine of the 10 top selling domestic brands do not identify their specific water source, treatment method, or provide contact info for consumers seeking additional information on water quality.

EWG recommends that consumers drink filtered tap water. It saves money (bottled water costs 1900x more) and it helps shrink the global glut of discarded plastic bottles. When bottled water is the only option, EWG recommends brands with high transparency scores (clear labeling) and advanced treatment.

EWG supports stronger federal standards to ensure consumers right to know all about their bottled water — where it comes from, what’s been done to purify it, if anything, and what trace pollutants lurk inside.
