Do You Have Fruit Trees?

July 1, 2013

Do you have fruit trees that provide you with more fruit than you know what to do with? You've used all you can, you've invited your neighbors and friends to help themselves, and there's still fruit hanging from the tree, most likely destined for the landfill when it falls off, once you've cleaned it up!

Well here's a way to make good use of that food, at no expense or inconvenience to you. A non-profit organization called Iskashitaa Refugee Network will come out and glean your fruit for you and then distribute to families in need and other local non-profits serving the food-insecure in Pima County. Iskashitaa is a network of volunteers including recently arrived Unite Nations refugees from Africa, Asia and the Middle East. They harvest the fruits and vegetables from backyards as well as a number of farms and orchards helping organic farmers. This process has many benefits:

  • You save time, money, and can request a receipt for tax purposes
  • The refugees are better able to integrate into this community and gain life skills to serve them in America
  • Families in need are helped with your food donation

For more information you can contact Iskashitaa Refugee Network, at 520-440-0100 or visit or email
