About Apache Junction

Located 36 miles east of downtown Phoenix, Apache Junction is primarily home to young dual-income families with children. The community flaunts its western mining town history while respecting the natural setting that complements residential development and master-planned golf communities. An active lifestyle is the norm, supported by several parks with opportunities for horseback riding, hiking and bird watching. There are numerous playgrounds, sports courts and fields, a library, an active senior center, a community swimming pool, a rodeo arena, museums, and an annual Renaissance Festival. The surrounding scenic area is famous for playing the backdrop in many Hollywood cowboy films.

Activities and Attractions

Apache Junction is a gateway to the saguaro-studded Superstition Mountain cliffs to the east and to the famous 120-mile Apache Trail. The Apache Trail is a scenic mountain drive used by tourists since 1922 to trace a path through deserts, mountains, by cliff dwellings, along lake shores, through old mining towns, beautifully eroded canyons and back to Apache Junction. Outdoor recreation can be found at many nearby lakes - Saguaro Lake, Canyon Lake, Apache Lake, and Theodore Roosevelt Lake. The Barleen Family Country Music Dinner Theatre is open November through April, and the annual Arizona Renaissance Festival attracts thousands of visitors to Apache Junction every year to partake in the pageantry of a 16th Century European village.
